Adjectives

What are adjectives?

Adjectives tell us more about nouns (people, places, things). Here’s how they work:

  • Describing: Adjectives show how things look, feel, sound, taste, or smell. Like “blue,” “soft,” “loud,” “sweet,” or “fragrant.”
  • Size & Quantity: They tell us about size and amount, like “big,” “tiny,” “many,” or “few.”
  • Colour: Adjectives give nouns colour, such as “red,” “green,” or “yellow.”
  • Opinions: They express feelings or opinions, like “delicious,” “funny,” or “boring.”
  • Origin: Adjectives tell where things are from, like “French,” “Asian,” or “Canadian.”
  • Material: They talk about what things are made of, like “wooden,” “metallic,” or “plastic.”
  • Age: Adjectives describe how old something is, like “old,” “young,” or “ancient.”
  • Shape: They explain what shape something is, like “round,” “square,” or “triangular.”

Adjectives make our stories vivid and help others understand the details. For example, instead of saying “dog,” we can say “fluffy dog” or “friendly, brown dog.” They’re like adding cool decorations to your sentences!
